Statement on Rakhine State

Statement on Rakhine State Inflicted by an incident in a village in Rakhine State, there was a series of riots in Sittwe and small towns along the border with Bangladesh in Rakhine. Therefore, the state of Emergency was declared the whole state of Rakhine and curfew was imposed in Sittwe, Kyauktaw, Buthidaung, and Maung Taw.

Over the last two weeks, the situation in Sittwe has been improved and the curfew in Sittwe has been reduced by 1 hour, i.e. from 18:00-06:00 to 19:00-05:00. Although there is no curfew in Mrauk U, the people are advised to stay in their houses between 22:00 and 04:00. Despite the fact that curfew is in place in the above mentioned towns, there are no restrictions for the visits and the people are leading their daily lives as usual during the day. Besides, there is no curfew in Ngapali Beach and visitors will be able to freely enjoy their stay at the beach.

Korean Air to Introduce Direct Flights to Yangon starting September

Seoul, Korea - Korean Air will launch nonstop service from Seoul Incheon to Yangon, the largest city and the center for trade, industry, entertainment and tourism in Myanmar, starting 13 September.

Korean Air’s new service to Yangon will be operated by B737-800 with “Boeing Sky interior” seating 138 passengers. Passengers can enjoy a variety of in-flight entertainment programs with a state-of-the-art AVOD (Audio & Video on Demand) system equipped in all classes. Moreover, the expanded overhead bins and spacious legroom will ensure extra comfort for passengers. Korean Air’s new service to Yangon will depart from Seoul Incheon every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday at 18:05 and will arrive in Yangon at 21:40 the same day. The return flight will depart from Yangon at 23:20, arriving Seoul Incheon at 07:40 on the next day.

With a flying time of about 6 hours, the new Korean Air route ensures travelers from Americas, Europe and other Asian countries hassle-free journeys to Yangon via Incheon International Airport, allowing them to enjoy the various touristic resources in Myanmar.

Yangon, which Korean Air will launch a new service, is the biggest industrial city of Myanmar. Nicknamed as the “city of golden pagodas”, Yangon is symbolized with its Shwedagon Pagoda, a 99 meter gilded pagoda always crowded with tourists from other countries.

As Myanmar expands its exchange with other countries, the demand for both business and leisure travel is expected to increase. Korean Air will continue to offer its extensive global network with a wider range of options for each of its passengers, delivering true “Excellence in Flight”
